Procrastination :(

I do procrastinate a lot and worst part of it that I am aware about this. I try to procrastinate a job until its deadline , then do it in hurry.

I procrastinate mostly such job, for which I am of opinion that it would be failure or it would not turn out as I expect.

Last month, I completed job on the last day of the deadline (28/02/2005) , which I could easily have completed in the first week of the month. I delayed it for entire month, and that too deliberately, believing that I have entire month to complete the job:(

I try to find excuse to postpone such job like I have another important job to do or I have plenty of time to do etc.,

I have tried different method to overcome it. First when I believe there is too many tasks at hand (only due to I postponed them) I make a TO DO list of pending jobs and give numbers to the jobs according to priorities. That works well. (Honestly, sometime I even postpone preparing TO DO LIST)

Recently I am trying different one. I simply concentrate on any one job, forgetting - not bothering the other jobs while first is not complete. I find this one easier. One job at a time.

But best of all is to never to post pone anything ( that I cannot do)

I found this really good article on procrastination and how to overcome it.

I want to get rid of it.

Procrastinators are Perfectionists.
There is an evil in all of us to find reasons not to do even the easiest of tasks.

I have been studying many procrastinators and their ways. I have come to a strange conclusion: Procrastinators are Perfectionists!

The procrastinators are the most creative minds. The true time abusers possess a skill to creative reasons and situations to avoid completing the actual work at hand.

They are selectively confident, often highly skilled, Pre-occupied and trapped in unrealistic goals.

Unlike procrastinators, the well known Perfectionists have their tasks well cut out, and they complete it perfectly to the requirement or even exceeding expectations with some creative improvements. But when you take a closer look , we find the path to perfection of the much acclaimed perfectionist is not a perfect one. The perfectionist in his quest for a perfect finish often makes compromises and works with and around the many imperfect situations.

The procrastinator is more or less an extreme perfectionist. He will deliver the same perfect result or even exceed expectation provided the ideal situation to the task. They refuse to let go of their perfectionist outlook in time of crisis. They believe the road to perfection must be perfect.

Procrastinators start with giving genuine reasons for their delays. Often reasons are taken as just reasons and nothing is done about them to improve the situation. The procrastinators then choose the next perfect path, the easiest path or the path of least resistance. The path of total negligence.

The best way to beat Procrastinators is to lower their high expectations and bring them closer to the real and imperfect ways of the world. Time abuse is a serious problem. And Procrastinators hold the key to eradicating this malice.

Pretend to be perfectionists? Lowering the expectation sounds good enough. But again isn't it matter of perfection ? Suppose I want to do 5 jobs perfectly in a hours. Then what is lowering of expection is (i) wheather I should do 3 jobs perfectly in a hour or (ii) 5 jobs less perfectly done in a hour?

Okay, I going confused here, again it is upto me what is 'perfect' for me?

Thanks Shreekesh for your observation. I will read it again when I am calm enough:)

What is the difference between laziness and procrastination? which comes first or both are same?

Check another article on Procrastination(Part II) it shows the advantage of procrastination lol

I believe a procrastinator is painfully aware about his action of postponeing a task. What about lazy people? How they feel about a job not done?

I only am delaying work if I don’t have much interest in it. But if I liked the job very much, I usually can finish it faster than others.

Jay that sounds like procrastinating:)
I also pleasnt work, and postpone the unpleasent one:| But you cant postpone everything someday you have to do it.

In the second article, it is said if you are in position to delegate unpleasent work you should do it.
